Our story
Over 71% of skincare is now fully synthetic. And over 42% of products claimed to be natural, actually contain synthetic ingredients.
Nothing Nasty is an independent, modern apothecary focusing on high quality, truly natural formulations. Based in the Sussex countryside, our mission is to create skincare the way we believe it should be made, with purpose, from what the earth provides & with the given knowledge handed down by our species over thousands of years.
We put craftsmanship at the forefront of our practice and make our products for individuals, not the masses, producing a single batch each season from responsibly sourced, high quality seasonal ingredients. Formulated in house & batched & bottled by hand in true artisan style.
Every Nothing Nasty formulation is made up of mindful, traceable & 100% Natural, Organic & vegan ingredients. We use Co2 oil extraction as our method of choice. Using this method allows us to accurately mirror the original plants aroma & chemical profile along with a wider range of compounds than steam distillation. It is also far better for the environment and uses significantly less energy.
Where it all began
Natural skincare is rooted in a long and layered tradition, shaped by centuries of human interaction with plants, oils, and minerals. Long before modern cosmetics, people across cultures turned to the natural world to care for their skin, guided by observation, ritual, and experience rather than trends.
In ancient civilisations, skincare was inseparable from daily life. In Egypt, oils, resins, and botanical extracts were prized not only for their cosmetic qualities but also for their restorative and protective properties. Ingredients such as olive oil, aloe, and honey were staples, while rituals involving milk and honey — often associated with Cleopatra — reflected a belief in nourishment and balance as the foundation of healthy skin.
Elsewhere, particularly within traditional Chinese medicine, skincare evolved alongside holistic health practices. Herbs and plant-based remedies were used to calm, heal, and support the skin, treating it as an extension of the whole body rather than something separate.
This lineage reveals a timeless truth: caring for the skin has always been an act of connection with nature. By drawing on these enduring traditions, we continue a slower, more thoughtful approach to self-care — one that honours natural ingredients, respects their origins, and places well-being at the centre of beauty.
